if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

though the iconic imagery of disco feels distinctly tied to the united states, the style had a wide-reaching influence that made it’s way to africa. while africa was already no stranger to the pulsing rhythms of funk, afro-beat, and highlife, the rise of disco added a slick sheen to the music, with musicians from all over the continent incorporating elements of the genre into their sounds. would there ever have been a studio 54 in ghana in late 70s, these would have been the recordings that would have packed the dance floor with their deep root in disco, soul & funk! an album recorded in the late 70s packed full of legendary musicians such as harry mosco and many more… to be re-discovered 35 years after it’s initial vinyl release as a private press. a “disco documentary full of funk” proves that it stands the test of time by sounding as fresh and original as any other sought-after disco / soul funk lp from the west coast of africa in the late 70s. bbe went on another crate-digging journey and found the original producer reindorf nana oppong and the original master tapes were dusted off, transferred to digital. in the process of this, even un-released material was discovered on the tapes, which makes this a rather special package. “nana love - disco documentary full of funk” is one special journey through afro disco & boogie in the late 70s, and we at bbe can guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!!!

as our true fans know, every now and then we leave our comfort zone to bring something else than techno. this season, we gave dib from italy the honor to be the unusual one. three tracks, three times basic, stripped down house that does well as a tool or a track in the early or deep hours of the night. or just for those people working hard at the office and wanting some deep house during their officework. all tracks have a very old skool vibe to it and breathe true deep house: not the filtered down vocal kind, but the breed that just lets a 909, 808 shine and some rhodes or warm analogue synths do the work. the first one is rather detroitish - with a nice acid stab and some strings setting the mood, the second one is more dance floor oriented and the third version is a bit of both. does it need to be said that dimitri andreas mastered it again? and that it is available on vinyl?
